The Saint Louis Browns joined the OOSL in the 1996 round of expansion. Their three year OOSL career record stands at 227-235 for a .491 Winning Percentage. Two of the four expansion teams of 1996 were disbanded at the end of 1998 to make way for the OOSL American Association -- the Saint Louis Browns were one of them. The Browns finished with the second-highest career winning percentage of all four of those clubs. An American Association franchise now carries the name of the Saint Louis Browns into the OOSL future.

The Browns had the distinction in 1998 of leading the OOSL American League in Team Batting Average (.280), while also ending up last in the League in Team E.R.A. (4.38)! Chuck Klein missed out on the AL Batting Title by a single percentage point to Chicago's Ty Cobb (.345 to .346). 1998 also saw Roger Clemens pass all competition by leading the League in Wins (22) -- he was the only pitcher to win 20 that year! Their last year in the OOSL AL was one of style, if not grace!
