These Pittsburgh Pirates are no longer an OOSL NL Franchise. This franchise was disbanded after the 1998 OOSL season. The franchise that bears the the name of "Pittsburgh Pirates" in 1999 (and thereafter) is in actuality the old OOSL National League Philadelphia Phillies. These Pittsburgh Pirates were one of the original OOSL teams. They were a CPU-controlled team throughout their 5-year history. With the disenfranchisement of the Pittsburgh Pirates at the end of 1998, their history ended. By order of the OOSL Commissioner all the players on the 1998 Pittsburgh Pirates roster were released to Free Agency in preparation of the beginning of a new OOSL-sponsored League -- the American Association. Further details about the AA can be found elsewhere on this site -- check OOSL Central for links. These Pirates have no direct relation to any current OOSL or AA franchise.

The original Pirates enjoyed their best season in 1995, winning 88 games. They also provided the only pennant race in the history of the National League's East division, running with the eventual champion New York Giants stride for stride until a head-to-head three game tilt with six games left in the season. Lacking the talent of their more celebrated opponents the Bucs gave the Giants a run with a combination of grit, balance, and timely hitting. Their role in shaping the 1995 season will remain a part of OOSL lore.
